Le Grau du Roi et la pointe de l'Espiguette
Discover the most picturesque fishing village in the Gard! Le Grau du Roi born between sand and water! Intially a natural pond of sea water but fed also by fresh water from inland . Over time an inlet formed connecting the sea and the pond: a Grau, which means passage in Occitan (local language). This led to the birth in the 13th century of Le Grau du Roi.
Ideally located at the gateway to the Camargue, Le Grau du Roi will seduce you with its lively streets and the wild natural beaches of l’Espiguette. Every year, visitors and locals gather on the café terraces at nightfall to listen to the music concerts!
The must-sees: the Seaquarium (and its Sharkarium, a unique attraction in Europe entirely devoted to sharks), the old lighthouse, the Villa Parris, the dolphin’s mison, the port.
